The Sacrament of Marriage
Is the matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman, establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, which by its nature is ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring. This covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.
FOCCUS-Marriage Preparation stands for Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding, and Study. FOCCUS is a self-diagnostic instrument which is designed to help couples learn more about themselves and their unique relationship. It provides individualized couple feedback on where each partner stands in regard to topic areas, which over the years and through extensive research, have proven to be important to married life.
FOCCUS is one of several required portions of Marriage Preparation at the Ave Maria Parish, within the Diocese of Colorado Springs. Over the years, since its development in 1985, FOCCUS has proven to be a valuable tool in developing and maintaining more effective communications between the couple and their families. Those individuals who are planning to marry with the Catholic Church are requested to begin their marriage preparation, by first contacting the parish’s office, at least one year before the planned date.
The parish has several FOCCUS facilitator-certified couples who are available to help you through this important and rewarding process.
